Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

This is not the first time I've used this product, but it is the first time in a really long time. I needed a new powder that was actually a shade light enough for me and I remembered that I've heard so many people rave about this powder and I couldn't remember my own opinion because it had been so long.

I got the shade 001 Transparent, because I'm that pale. First off, it has a really nice scent of baby powder, which I like. You can't really tell by the picture, but when you look at it closely, there are tiny shimmers in it that do not show up once you apply it.  The packaging says that these shimmers are natural minerals and that this product should help minimize the appearance of pores. According to Rimmel, it should also help control shine for up to five hours.

This powder is definitely light enough for my skin and is under $4.00 most places, which is a definitely plus. I quickly started to realize that I couldn't even use my regular powder brush with this product, though, because it left my face looking cakey. I decided to start using my duo fiber brush to get a lighter application but I still noticed it start to cake up on my face throughout the day. I even used Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray on my face to try to get rid of some of the powder look but even that did no good.

I really wanted to like this product but I just haven't found a way to make it work. I always keep products like this, though, because I usually figure it out eventually. Maybe it just doesn't wear well with the foundation I'm using? Who knows, but for now, this has moved out of the drawers of my everyday makeup.

Have you guys tried this? I'd love to know your opinions and whether or not you've made it work!

    1. It is! It's the perfect shade for my skin and it can be tough to find makeup in light enough shades like this so I really wish it could've worked out :(

  4. Oooh, I'm sorry you didn't like this. I use this everyday, with the ELF Studio flat top powder brush. I haven't had any problems with cakey-ness either. Hmmm, that's odd. I'm sorry, I hope you find a way to work with this.

    1. I have heard some other people complain about it being cakey, so I know I'm not the only one but for some reason it just doesn't agree with my skin! When I switch foundations I'll see if it works with something different!

  7. That's so unfortunate that you've had troubles with this powder. I at first had similar troubles with the powder looking powdery on my face. However, since I found that it made my face matte for the longest amount of time out of any other powder I've tried before I just kept playing around with techniques. I've used a few different types of brushes but so far my favourite has been the Ecotools Custom Coverage Buffing brush. I (with a very light hand) tap the brush onto the product and then tap on the edge of the container and then with a "dabbing" motion apply to my face. If the product is still too think I then grab a coarser brush (just a cheap one I have in my collection with no apparent name) and in circular motions buff my skin. Most days I don't even bother with a setting spray as this suits just fine for me.
If you retry and this works out for you let me know I'd love to hear about it :)

    1. Thank you for letting me know! I've tried similar techniques with brushes I have and just haven't gotten the best results. I'm going to keep trying though, it's one of those products that is going to take some time to figure out, which is unfortunate but I'd really like for it to work out!
