One-store Farmhouse Style: Kirkland's

If you've turned your TV on lately or have been on the internet AT ALL you would've seen Farmhouse style as all the rage in home decorating. I'm a fan. I am. I love rustic pieces, white washes, iron, black accents, it's just all around a cozy feel. I've been incorporating this style into my home decor, but I also like a little sparkle and a little glam, lucky for me they play well off of each other!

We've been looking at houses recently, we're in no rush to move, just keeping our eyes out. Even looking, though, has given me the itch to design new spaces and come up with new "themes" for rooms (If you know me you know I'm all about a theme, from birthday parties to gift wrapping).

I love making inspiration boards so to do this I decided to turn to my favorite store for finding well-priced, good quality pieces: Kirkland's! I don't live very close to an actual store, so I've got my eye on some things for when I go home at Thanksgiving!

I really enjoy doing one-store boards like this so I did another one with all Kirkland's pieces that I'll be posting soon :)

Home Decor Updates!

Hey, everyone! I've been doing some little projects around the house and I thought I would compile them and show you guys some of the updates! If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen most of these, if not, you can click the link in the top right corner of the page :) First up is the laundry room. 

This isn't anything new, however I finally got around to taking some photos! The laundry sign off to the right shows all of the symbols found on clothing tags and what they mean! It's from Hobby Lobby and I thought it was obviously appropriate :) Also, the jar of clothespins is probably one of the easiest ways to add a little something to your laundry room that's cute and actually makes sense as a "decor" item in a laundry room.

Next is the DIY wreath we hung over the console table. I've been wanting a magnolia wreath for quite a while now, however they can be pricey! I spent $15 and made this one myself...it's not the best out there, but it's good enough for me, especially with the savings of doing it myself! (Sorry the picture is so weird with the coloring and the shadows, I took it as soon as we got it hung because I was excited haha :)

Last but not least, is our guest bedroom. We finally ordered matching nightstands for this room, I added a couple of throw pillows since I did an update, re-made the "Be Our Guest" sign and added a couple of accessories. I really love this room, it feels fun and cozy at the same time. And I'm still really into the way the  monochrome look that we went for with just a few pops of color turned out.
That's it on the home updates for now. We've got a big change happening in our living room soon so I'll be sure and do a post when the time comes!

30th birthday Recap & Ideas

Today I thought it would be fun to share what we did and how I decorated for my boyfriends 30th birthday! Maybe this will help any of you that have friends or family turning 30 or it may just provide some general birthday ideas.

If you'll remember, last year I did a "coffee shop" theme for his birthday, but this year I decided that 30 is a big enough birthday that "30" would simply be the theme.

To start, I got a great idea from a coworker to do "30 gifts for turning 30". So I made a spreadsheet of all of the ideas that I had, they weren't big, expensive gifts, just random things I know he likes or would think were cool (Gift cards, movies, favorite gum, etc). I categorized everything to make the list making easier because I found it tough to think of 30 things (Movie Day, Coffee Day, Useful Stuff Day). On the list, I also included the gifts I was getting him as well as what his family was getting him in the 30 to make it a little easier for myself! His birthday happened to be on a Saturday, so I decided that starting the Monday before he would get 4-5 gifts (depending on the category) and by Saturday he would be at his last set of gifts totaling 30. He LOVED the idea and looked forward to getting to open gifts every day leading up to his birthday. Even though some gifts were silly, just the act of a mini celebration each day made it that much more special. My goal was for him to feel like his birthday wasn't just over after a few hours because it only comes once a year and 30 is a big milestone!

I decorated most of the house so everywhere he went would have a little birthday in it, however, downstairs I decided to do a black, silver and gold theme with the decor.  I bought those amazing gold metallic number balloons off of Amazon, got the tassel banner from Michaels and I made the banner that says "Thirty" from glitter letters and twine I found at Michaels. Also, I made the big poster board of events that happened in 1986 by taking a tube of white wrapping paper and wrapping it over itself around the tube and then attaching it to a tripod. I had the idea to do that for a while but ended up having to actually make it in a hurry. It was still a hit and he thought it was really interesting to read a compiled list of world events that happened that year.

As far as what we did on his birthday, we took a mini road trip to go snow tubing for the first time and we went into the city to eat at his favorite restaurant. The weather was perfect with a light dusting of snow on the ground and super sunny and we had the best time!

My Gift Wrap Theme for 2015

Blogmas Day 11

I decided to do a Christmas gift wrap theme again this year because I enjoyed it last year. For this year I decided to use brown wrapping paper usually used for shipping, red and white striped ribbon, burlap ribbon, twine and then accessorize them with pieces of tree sprigs and berries. This rustic style has never been my style, but I just really wanted to give it a try and see how I liked it!

 It took a while because I had to hot glue everything down, but I'm really happy with the way they turned out. I also love the plaid tissue paper, probably my favorite ever!
